Peter Tatton
It is with a heavy heart that we have to pass on the sad news of the death of our much-loved colleague and friend Peter Tatton.
Peter will be fondly remembered for his tireless work in athletics over many years. He gave his time , expertise and skills to the benefit of athletics in Nottinghamshire so that athletes could reach their true potential.
We will all miss Peter but most of all the sport will miss a true gentleman and a loyal stalwart of athletics.
Rest in peace Peter, your work is done my friend.
I regarded Peter Tatton as our Notts AAA Summer League expert. He was Chair and Secretary of the Road Running Committee for over 20 years and he did a fantastically efficient job, dealing with the Summer League and our Road Running County Championships single-handedly. I can hardly remember him missing an event. When I took over the role from him, he continued to enthusiastically attend meetings and to give as much guidance and support as he could. Peter was always at the end of the phone or available by email for me to check anything with him and his advice was sound, reasonable and well-intentioned. He just wanted to do the right thing for our athletes and for them to enjoy their running in the County. His health had declined over the last couple of years but he made an effort to come to the Summer League races, helping out at the Finish and always staying behind with the Results Team until all tasks had been completed.
I am sad that Peter will miss our 40th year celebration of the Summer League this year as he was a massive part of its success.
Peter was a huge sports fan. Obviously, we know him as having a keen interest in athletics but he was also a season ticket holder at Nottingham Rugby Club, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and Nottingham Forest where I often bumped into him. In fact, many of mine and Peter's emails focused on running but the fortunes of Forest would often get a mention! Most importantly, Peter was a genuinely nice bloke who would help anyone and he will be missed by all his friends in the running community.
I will remember him fondly as a sportsman and a gentleman.
